CASE STUDY

Computer-Technical Forensic Examination

ENG
Allegations of Illegal Gambling Activity. Russia.

Situation:

In the course of a criminal investigation into a bookmaker’s operations, law enforcement authorities identified on-premises computers used by visitors to place instant bets. The investigative authorities alleged that the software installed on these machines qualified as gambling software due to the suspected presence of random number generators (RNGs).

Our Solution:

CSI Group conducted a comprehensive computer-technical examination, including:

  • Parallel testing of the software functionality through controlled experiments.
  • Hardware inspection of the devices involved.
  • In-depth review and analysis of the source code for any embedded RNGs or similar mechanisms.

The forensic report prepared by our certified experts confirmed the absence of features that would legally classify the software as gambling under Russian law.

Result:

Our findings substantiated the lawful nature of the company's operations. As a result, the Client avoided criminal and administrative liability, as well as significant financial and reputational damage.
